iPod Car Player
Your source for information about iPod Car Players, and how to choose the best one for you. When looking for an iPod car player, the first thing you need to settle on is your budget. While many of the newest, upgraded car models have built-in iPod docking, most vehicles still do not. That means that you need some kind of after-market accessory to play the iPod through your car's stereo system.
But the range in price is quite wide. If you are simply looking for an iPod charger, and will listen to the music through earbuds, you can get an adapter that plugs into your lighter for under $10. However, that is only good to keep the iPod charged or to listen as a passenger (it is against the law in most states for the driver to listen to music through headphones).
The next level up is the iPod FM Transmitter. This is a device, usually powered by an adapter plugged into the lighter, which then broadcasts your iPod tunes on a particular FM frequency. You then simply tune your car stereo to that same frequency, and you can listen to the music through your car. These can be had from $15 to $60. Be sure to pay attention to the reviews, however. Some of the lowest-priced FM transmitters have a poor quality signal, and the music will have static.
The next level of iPod car players are the actual after-market stereo devices that have built-in iPod connectivity. These range in price from $60 to a few hundred dollars, depending on the quality of the stereo and the other features. (The ability to connect to an iPod is not expensive. The wide range is mostly based on other features of the stereo itself.)
Be aware that installing an after-market stereo is not for the beginner, and you may have to factor in the cost of having someone install the system.
The final device that you can use to integrate your iPod into your car is a connector to your CD Disc Changer. These are usually between $100 and $200, and are a special unit that plugs into your changer. Again, it is recommended that you have a professional install the equipment.
One of the disadvantages of the more expensive units is that they are difficult to move from vehicle to vehicle. Though the quality can sometimes be a little lower, the ability to move the FM transmitter from one vehicle to another is often a big benefit.
So, regardless of your budget, there is an iPod Car Player solution for you!
